Domain Bernard Delagrange (13% abv) |
||||
|
Country of Origin: |
Meursault a commune in Côte de Beaune in the southern section of the Côte d’Or, Burgundy, France |
||||
|
Our thoughts: |
This delicious white Burgundy is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes. Burgundy, particularly the Côte d’Or, produces some world class red and white wines achieving phenomenal prices but the region can be a real challenge. Combine the classification system, which is geographically focused (Bordeaux is producer/Château orientated) and the French ‘equal’ Inheritance laws, a relic from the Napoleonic times, it has resulted in the vineyards being divided and sub-divided into small plots. Each plot is often ‘farmed’ by a different grower who may make and bottle their own wine with different ideas and capabilities or sell the grapes to a négociant and there are négociants who have their own vineyard holdings and so it goes on. Result? A premier cru or even grand cru wine will be more expensive but not necessarily be better! What’s the key? You need to get to know the better producers. Burgundy is the classic home of the Chardonnay grape. This full bodied wine combines complex hazelnuts, honey and vanilla aromas with a fabulous buttery, creamy texture that is countered by firm acidity and delicate oak. The deep concentration of flavours is long and well balanced with a lovely nutty, mineral and stony refined finish.

Jansz Premier Cuvee NV (12.5% abv) |
|
Country of Origin: |
Tasmania, Australia |
|
Our thoughts: |
The Jansz Tasmania Non Vintage Premium Cuvée is pale gold in colour, with
persistent fine mousse. The lifted nose displays honeysuckle and citrus notes
from Tasmanian Chardonnay, the tirage age contributes aromas of nougat and
roasted nuts, while the Pinot Noir fruit shows delicate strawberry.
The palate is well balanced with delicate fruit flavours, creaminess from the
fine bead mousse and fresh acid. The wine finishes dry and light, with lingering
flavours of citrus and nougat

An elegant, balanced and refined Sparkling wine from a relatively small vineyard where they grow, press and vinify the grapes themselves. Rich yet delicate New World Sparkling Wine which is lovingly made from the harmonious blend of Chardonnay (51%) and Pinot Noir (49%) and aged in bottle for around 2 years. It is crisp, dry and pale gold in colour with fine persistent bubbles and a creamy mousse. The nose follows through to the palate revealing supple and well balanced and refined delicate fruit; apple, stone fruit and strawberry, with citrus and floral notes with a lovely toasty slightly nougat and nutty long finish.
If you’re after something that is good quality and value with a bit more individuality, this is a great alternative to Champagne and the major brands.

Château Bauduc Bordeaux Rosé 2010 (13% abv) |
|
Country of Origin: |
Bordeaux, France |
|
Our thoughts: |
Since 2000, the owners of Château Bauduc, the Quinneys who regularly supply Gordon Ramsay and Rick Stein, have cut out the middlemen and sell direct to consumers through mail order and the internet. This Provence style rose is very pale, dry, fresh and fruity Rosé (sealed with a Stelvin screwcap). The only Rosé on the front page of Rick Stein's Seafood restaurant and a house Rosé at Gordon Ramsay's.James Lawther MW, Contributing Editor of Decanter magazine, loved it: 'Very pale pink. Fresh, red fruit aromas - raspberry and redcurrant nuance. Clean and dry on the palate but with an underlying ripeness of fruit. The freshness is what appeals. Delicious. Drink now.' |
